Jared Newman of Tech Hive, released an article on PC World that talks about how he uses a $25 Bluetooth tracker in order to find his Apple TV remote. The fourth generation Apple TV remote has a light weight aluminum finish and a little bit of smooth glass. At retail, they cost $19.00 and use a CR 2032 battery. Although very sleek, the remote can be easily lost.
Newman found a way to retrieve his frequently lost Apple TV Remote: using a $25 bluetooth tracker. This $25 bluetooth tracker is called Tile. How Tile works is it is a device that attaches onto whatever object and can be activated to make a sound via mobile app.
Newman then goes on to talk about different Bluetooth trackers on the market. Some of the IT Equipment manufacturers that are Tile’s competitors are TrackR, Chipolo, and PebbleBeeHoney.
What’s what Newman had to say about his though process on purchasing the Tile over other Bluetooth tracker competitors: “In any case, I was drawn to Tile because its square, 37mm frame almost perfectly matches the 38mm-wide Apple TV remote. I planned to stick the tracker to the underside of the remote control in a place that wouldn’t mess too much with the ergonomics, using some adhesive that Tile sells for an extra $5.”
Tile is also pretty straight forward. All you need is to download an app and push a button and the Tile sound activates. This is basically like a plug and play machine.
However although this Bluetooth tracker is very simple to use, there are some cons to the tracker. Tile insists that you have your location services enabled. The idea makes sense when you have misplaced something that is outside of your vicinity. However if you are using the tracker as a Bluetooth tracker for your Apple TV Remote as Newman is, chances are that your remote will not be outside of your home. If you turn off the location services, Tile will constantly remind you to turn back on the location services.
