On November 20th, 2014, the Taiwanese computer hardware and electronics company, ASUSTeK Computer Inc. announced that their servers will be powering the world’s most energy-efficient Green500 supercomputers. ASUSTeK Computer Inc., also known as ASUS, will be providing their powerful ESC4000 G2S server as a part of the L-CSC compute cluster which will be used for quantum chromodynamics theoretical physics simulations.
The ASUS ESC4000 G2S is and upgraded version of the ESC4000 G2 product line. This enhanced version is based on the dual Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 micro-processor platform and has a specific design towards high-density GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). The ASUS ESC4000 G2S is up to 20% more power efficient than the ESC4000 G2 and has nine PCI Express 3.0 (PCIe 3.0) x 16 expansion slots. With up to 10% greater overall performance over the previous model and also providing simple scalability, outstanding energy efficiency, and high density computing capability, the ESC4000 G2S servers can be optimally used in the HPC fields of life sciences, medical science, engineering science, financial modeling, virtualization, and digital content creation.
