Microsoft’s never-ending battle with Apple added a new chapter this week, as the company announced the arrival of the Surface Book.
Surface Book is a laptop made to be in direct competition with Apple’s MacBook. The device has three different configurations, each providing a unique way to work. The first is, expectedly, as a normal laptop with a well-lit screen. It can also be used as a portable clipboard once the display portion is detached. In this sense, it essentially works as a tablet. Finally, it can be used as a canvas, by flipping the monitor around 180 degrees and closing it on top of the keyboard. Plenty of creative possibilities arise once it is put into pen first mode.
The most amazing fact about this unveiling is that this is the first laptop Microsoft has ever created. After decades and decades of Microsoft desktop computers, we can finally have one that fits on our lap. The device itself is essentially a Surface Pro 4 with a more polished look, but it’s better late than never to be able to get your hands on the Microsoft laptop.
The Surface Book is priced around $1,500. It was built with power and speed in mind, using a 6th Gen Intel® Core™ i5 or i7 processor with up to 16GB of memory and an optional discrete graphics chip.
Specifications of the base model include:
So no matter what you use Microsoft’s new device for, they can now say they are in the game for laptop sales and will continue to feud with Apple till the end of time.
