Marvell Technology Group was founded in 1995 with headquarters in Santa Clara, California. An enormous public company, Marvell boasts $3.17 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2013, a workforce of over 7000 employees, and over 3300 U.S. patents and 900 foreign patents.
The company’s primary business is in semiconductors and ships over one billion chips per year. Founded by the family team of Sehat Sutardja, his wife Weili Dai (currently the only woman co-founder of a global semiconductor), and brother Pantas Sutardja, the company now has international design centers across the world – including in China, Europe, India, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United States.Marvell’s products are found in a variety of renowned devices. The company produced the Wi-Fi chip in Apple’s first generation iPhone.
They developed an automotive Wi-Fi connectivity system, the Marvell Mobile Hotspot (MMH), with the 2010 Audi A8 being the first vehicle manufactured to carry an MMH. The PXA1088 family of communication processors was used to power Samsung’s latest tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.
Initially, Marvell sold computer data storage devices but the company’s product portfolio has since expanded to include lines of application processors, broadband products, embedded processors, LED lighting, microcontrollers, power management devices, PC connectivity devices, switching products, system controllers, wireless products, and wireless networking products.
