Announced in March of 2015, Swiss maker of computer accessories Logitech International S.A. released a new re-vamped update of its popular MX Master wireless mouse. The new mouse will be configurable with up to three devices at once, using Bluetooth or the company’s proprietary Unifying Receiver and an “Easy-Switch” button to connect between three desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or any mix of the three. Priced at $99.99 USD, the mouse can be used on both Windows and Mac operating systems. The company states that the mouse can last for up to 40 days on a single charge and is equipped with a re-chargeable battery which can be recharged in only four minutes for a full day’s worth of use.
The speed-adaptive scroll wheel of the MX Master by Logitech is derived from the company’s prior MX Revolution, which debuted in 2006, marking the first return of the popular feature since the MX Revolution. One distinction on the new model is the inability of the scroll wheel to tilt side-to-side. However, the MX Master is able to switch between ratchet mode (for slower, precision scrolling) and free spin mode (for faster scrolling through large pages).
The mouse will also utilize the company’s laser and advanced optic tracking technology known as Dark field Laser Tracking. Using LED lights and an angularly repositioned sensor device, the tracker can process more surface contrast and capture greater specular reflection, allowing the mouse to track even on a surface such as glass. Other upgrades on the MX Master includes a thumbwheel for horizontal scrolling, programmable buttons, and a redesigned palm rest. In addition, the mouse’s island keys are rated at 10 million clicks, double the previous models’ rating of 5 million clicks. The Gesture button is configurable to switch between various Mac functions.
