Battery life has always been a huge problem in the mobile industry. Huawei, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has recently unveiled a battery prototype that has the capability of being charged at incredibly fast speeds. Huawei can take a completely dead battery and charge it to 48 percent in a span of 5 minutes.
This type of battery is a lithium-ion battery that comes in two sizes: the 3,000mAh prototype (which is used in the above example) and the 600mAh prototype, which can be charged from a completely dead battery to 68 percent in 2 minutes. The 68 percent charge allows for 10 hours of calls on the Huawei phone. Lithium batteries can charge up to 10 times faster than normal batteries, Huawei says. Because the battery consisted of a graphite-coated anode, it is able to be charged without altering the lifespan, capacity, or long-term longevity.
A Watt Lab representative talks about how revolutionary this battery will be:
"Huawei is confident that this breakthrough in quick-charging batteries will lead to a new revolution in electronic devices, especially with regard to mobile phones, electric vehicles, wearable devices, and mobile power supplies.”
Watt Lab is part of the Central Research Institute at China’s Huawei Technology Corporation.
However, this battery requires a special type of charger in order to work. Unfortunately, this charger is not readily available and not small enough to be a household item. With this being a problem, the battery most likely will not hit the markets anytime soon.
To get an idea of how actual batteries are doing on the market, Samsung said that its new Galaxy S6 battery could power up to nearly 4 hours of battery life after a single 10 minute charge. Not only had this, but Quick Charge 3 also announced that it could charge its phones (using the Snapdragon 820 processor technology) from 0 to 80 percent in 35 minutes.
