Arcotron: The German Big Brother

Arcotron Traffic Systems

Headquartered in Windischeschenbach, Germany, Arcotron GmbH is a leading provider of video technologies, especially, for use in traffic systems. The Bavarian company is a premier partner of multinational engineering firm Bosch, imaging giant Pentax, and telecommunications firm Barox Kommunikation. In addition to consistently meeting the standards of its partner companies, Arcotron is a sister company of Gebacon Systems Engineering and Services, which specializes in public transport engineering, such as railway systems. Arcotron is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of customized camera systems, traffic detection software, speed domes, and a variety of other surveillance technologies.

In addition to its existing product portfolio, Arcotron has the following projects currently under development:

  • SINUS: The Sinus range consists of durable, specially housed cameras utilizing pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) technologies. Easily configured to meet a broad range of camera and lens arrangements, the Sinus system can read license plates from long distances, classify vehicles, and monitor public transport routes—all in real-time.
  • ORTHO: The Ortho system consists of motionless cameras. The static nature of these cameras are ideal for monitoring a tunnel for real-time traffic conditions. The Ortho range is manufactured in a variety of sizes to meet a customer’s desired lens configuration. They are constructed of high-quality stainless steel.
  • CENTRON: The Centron line is made of manually operated control panels.

Traffic engineering calls for intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Arcotron meets the needs of the modern expressway with its task-optimized CCTV products. The company’s systems can preemptively predict an accident before it happens. The traffic operators utilizing Arcotron technologies can combine the feed results of the monitoring system to efficiently implement traffic control procedures.

Tunnel engineering requires systems that can withstand the volatile, high-vibration atmosphere of a tunnel for long operational periods. Arcotron’s stainless steel detection cameras utilize the company’s patented software to seamlessly survey a tunnel.

Currently, Arcotron is working on technologies to automatically assess video footage. These innovative systems would be able to detect and warn traffic controllers about fires via image processing. They would also alert controllers of static vehicles in stopping bays.

Arcotron’s CCTV camera systems can be seen patrolling the following platforms:

  • Stadiums
  • Race tracks
  • Airports
  • Train Stations
  • Harbors
  • City Lights
  • Penitentiaries
  • Pipelines
  • Industrial Plants
